Morning Raga
Painting created for an exhibition in New Delhi, India, hosted by the Asian Literary Society on Asian Women. The theme was to depict any Asian place or person using an Asian painting style.
Inspired by my mother’s riaz (singing practice) at dawn, ‘Morning Raga’ aims at recreating a neighbourhood held in raptures by her melodic voice and the soulful notes of her tanpura (Indian stringed instument).
The painting has been created in the Kalighat style that originates from Kolkata, India.
